Fighting alongside her sister ship the Haguro in the Battle of Surabaya from Feb 27 to March 1, in 1942, the two vessels fired in excess of 1600 rounds of 20cm ammunition. Damaged during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the Nachi returned for repairs to Manila Bay where she was caught in an American air raid sinking on Nov.5th 1944.
