Naval Battle of Trafalgar 1805/2005!!

The British fleet won the Naval Battle of Trafalgar 200 years ago!

His Majesty's Ships, particularly the Victory as their flagship, had ever reason to celebrate the 21st october 1805, since they had succeeded in defeating the Franco-Spanish fleet.
However celebrations were dampened because the Victory's Commander, Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson, lost his life on his ship on the very day of the great Victory. The great hero's tomb is in St. Paul's Cathedral, London.
Today, H.M.S. Victory lies in dry-dock in Portsmouth in all her splendour. The whole of England was outraged when it was suggested the ship be scrapped following the Napoleonic wars, so she was reprieved and became the stationary flagship of the commander-in-chief. In 1922 the Victory underwent a comprehensive restoration paid for out of donations. She was the opened to the public as a memorial.

In 1985, Ryanair, an Irish low price airline, started to operate with one 15-seater turboprop aircraft between the south east of Ireland and London. The company made great progress year on year until in 1995 it was the largest passenger airline on the Dublin - London route. As they continued to grow, Ryanair ordered from Boeing 45 aircraft of the new type B737-800. In the meantime the total number of B737-800s ordered has increased to 225 with the option of a further 193 which are due for delivery by March 2012. At present (March 2005), Ryanair are flying 80 Boeing 737-800s to 93 destination in 19 European countries. The Boeing 737-800, with seating for 189 passengers, is the most efficient commercial aircraft in the world on short to medium range flights.

Since September 1997 a real Zeppelin has again been making tracks across the sky; it is the most up-to-date airship in the world. The Zeppelin NT (New Technology) was developed and built by the firm Zeppelinluftschifftechnik GmbH in Friedrichshafen and is the largest rigid airship in the world. Three 200 hp piston engines with swivelling airscrews give it a maximum speed of 130 kpm and a degree of manoeuvrability never before achieved. In the meantime 3 airships have been completed and more than 38,000 passengers have been carried. The Zeppelin NT is also successfully used as a publicity medium.

THE LAST FLIGHTS LONDON-HEATHROW TO N.Y.!

All seven jets of the BA Concorde fleet ended up in museums or as static exhibits at airports!
As a result of financial pressures, both British Airways and Air France decided to withdraw Concorde from their fleets. This brought the 34-years era of the one and only supersonic passenger aircraft to an end.
On 23rd October 2003, the last scheduled BA Concorde took off for her final direct flight from London to New York. After the last paying passengers had disembarked, she jetted back to Heathrow on the 24th with many VIPs aboard.

The Titanic achieved fame due to the tragic events that overtook her during her maiden voyage on 14th April 1912. The "Queen of the Sea" was to carry 1,316 passengers from Southampton to New York for the White Star Line. During the night at about 23.40 hours, in the Atlantic, the British luxury linerhit an iceberg that tore a 100 m gash in her starboard side. When the Titanic sank at about 0.20 hours on 15th April 1,503 of the 2,206 people on board lost their lives. The 46,329 BRT vessel had a length of 267 m and a displacement of 66,000 tons.
