In 1985, Ryanair, an Irish low price airline, started to operate with one 15-seater turboprop aircraft between the south east of Ireland and London. The company made great progress year on year until in 1995 it was the largest passenger airline on the Dublin - London route. As they continued to grow, Ryanair ordered from Boeing 45 aircraft of the new type B737-800. In the meantime the total number of B737-800s ordered has increased to 225 with the option of a further 193 which are due for delivery by March 2012. At present (March 2005), Ryanair are flying 80 Boeing 737-800s to 93 destination in 19 European countries. The Boeing 737-800, with seating for 189 passengers, is the most efficient commercial aircraft in the world on short to medium range flights.
