Developed in parallel with the Citroen Xsara Kit-car that took part in the 1999 French Rally Championship,

The T4 turbocharged 4 x 4 version first took to the road in spring of the same year. On obtaining special approval for the FRC (French Rally Car) category, the Citroen Sport Team could immediately line up this prototype for the 2000 French Championship, driven by Philippe Bugalski, who was to win all his races. Now having obtained WRC (World Rally Car) approval for spring 2001, the Xsara T4 will race on "tarmac" over certain stages of the World Rally Championship, a precursor to a more consistent involvement during the 2002 season. The Citroen Xsara T4, like all WRCs has a steel body, 4-wheel drive and 4-cylinder turbocharged engine.
