Scorpion is the first all-aluminium armoured vehicle in the world. Lightness, manoeuvrability and speed are the hallmarks of this new three-seat light reconnaissance vehicle now in British Army service. Built by Alvis, with orders totalling more than 2,600, the Scorpion has been likened to a large car in performance with a top speed of over 50 mph. Powered by a military version of the 4.2 litre engine used in the Jaguar saloon car, the Scorpion's main armament consists of a 76mm gun and a 7.62mm co-axial machine gun.
The Scimitar is another version of the Scorpion mounting a 30mm Rarden gun for the anti-armoured personnel carrier role, for which optional parts are provided in this kit. Other members of the Scorpion family include Spartan, Striker, Sultan, Samaritan and Samson.
