A nicely detailed model of a 20-ton 9-plank wood body wagon in the livery of the Harrogate Gas Company.
Town gas production required a steady supply of coal and the larger the plant the larger the quantities needed! Several gas companies purchased large 20-ton wagons as these offered a better load capacity vs tare weight and reduced the total number of wagons (and therefore cost of maintenance) required when compared to 7-plank 10/12 ton wagons.
