Designed as a daylight bomber, the Mosquito was intended to fly faster than most of the fighter aircraft, for which reason it was initially not equipped with own weaponry. Still today, this robust aircraft has the reputation of being one of the most versatile aircraft of all times. De Havilland built a total of 5007 Mosquitos, 4444 of which during WWII.
