Plastic assemby kit containing 7 sprues with 104 parts. The approx dimensions of this model when assembled are fuselage 330mm, wingspan 350mm.  Requires polystyrene cement and paint to complete. Decal markings for Russian Red 50 are included.

The Ilyushin A-50 Mainstay is an early warning and air controlling aircraft derived from the Ilyushin-76, the western nickname for the plane being Mainstay. The A-50 was designed to track and target USAF E-3 surveillance aircraft  monitoring Soviet air operations. It had an extended fuselage and modified nose with air refuelling equipment. A 9m round aerial radar dish gave a search range of up to 300-400 kilometres. Even small air targets like cruise missiles could be detectable. Since 1984 about 25 A-50s have been produced with most deployed along the Scandinavian borders and the Kamchatka peninsular.
