In 2002 the commercial vehicle division of the DaimlerChrysler Schweiz AG, official truck sponsor of the SAUBER-PETRONAS F1 team, started a campaign with the Mercedes-Benz "Actros". The purpose of the operation was to publicise the sponsorship by the Mercedes-Benz Truck Division of the SAUBER-PETRONAS F1 team. In addition the plan was to link the "Actros" product with the prestige image and level of awareness of the SAUBER-PETRONAS F1 team and to promote interest in trials by means of a competition. To achieve this, in collaboration with the Sauber Team from Hinwil, fifteen of the Actros model were made up in the same design as the SAUBER-PETRONAS C21 from the 2001 season. These 15 trucks were available for trials and were used at exhibitions and press events within the framework of this "Actros SAUBER-PETRONAS" promotion that was to last until November 2002.
