The Derby type 2s spread rapidly across the BR network, displacing steam locomotives from secondary passenger and goods duties. These locomotives developed their own following later in their lives as they were in turn replaced.
25043 represents the colourful change period between the BR green and blue livery during the early 1970s. This locomotive has received full yellow ends, new TOPS number and blue-painted grille cover panels, but retains the green livery and lion & wheel crest. This locomotive has the early style of bodyshell, characterised by the large number of grilles in the sides.
