This version of the 24 has not been produced previously and provides a further visual variant of the popular and useful Derby type 2.

Bachmanns 24 and 25 models have a heavy diecast chassis and central motor drive to both bogies, with flywheels to maintain smooth running. Era 5. Directional lighting. Internal (cab) lighting.

DCC and Sound ready, 21 pin decoder required for DCC operation, sound decoder and speaker required for sound operation.

When British Railways decided on a 4-character headcode system the diesel locomotive designs being built needed to be revised to accomodate the 4-character display instead of the steam-era disc headcode array. The Derby type 2 design, later class 24, was equiped with a headcode box fitted into the roof end dome of the cab roof. The design revision included other internal equipment changes, creating the first sub-class of 24/1. This style of cab end was continued when the more powerful engine was fitted, creating class 25, but later revised with side fairings over roof-mounted air horns for the 25/1 and subsequent 25s.
