The Tunnel Cement owned wagons were built to the BR drawings and painted in the usual bauxite brown colour with the company large letter T logo and name painted on in a red banner style across the upper half of the bodyside, the lettering being fitted into the panels between the strengthening ribs.
These wagons were numbered in the companys' own sequence, with the BR registration number on oval yellow plates bolted to the solebar.

Dapol have produced a very nice model of the BR design banana van. These wagons were similar to ordinary box and fruit vans, but adapted with insulation and in some cases heating specially for the transport of imported bananas.

These vans ran in trains of varied length, according to the destination demands and could also be seen running singly to deliver smaller loads. When not needed for banana traffic the vans would sometimes be used for other 'clean' goods.

Originally this was principally gunpowder and frequently used to transport explosives for mines and quarries, this name was retained for use on these vans long after other exploseives were developed. During peacetime the cargoes included all kinds of explosives and potentially explosive material, plus ammunition deliveries for reserve and cadet units across Britain.

The single-ended GWR brake vans were withdrawn from traffic use in the 1960s, as national agreements with the unions required access to both ends of brake vans. However hundreds of the GWR vans found a home with the engineers who appreaciated the large enclosed van section and solid-sided veranda which prevented loose items and tools from being lost 'overboard' while travelling.

Following the pooling of coal wagons during WW2 many thousands of privately owned wagons were passed to British Railways at nationalisation. These wagons were painted in the standard grey livery and given numbers prefixed with the letter P.

This model is lettered for British Industrial Sand (BIS), suppliers of consistant quality sand for glass making. Wagons working for BIS remained in service into the 1980s.

RMC have been long-term users of rail transport for bulk materials, having several rail-connected distribution depots where water, cement, sand and aggregates are combined to form a concrete mix. This is loaded into the familiar rotating barrel concrete mixer lorries for delivery to construction sites and poured directly into the waiting form shuttering.
