Ralf Schumacher made his Formula One debut in 1997 with the Jordan team .In 1999 he changed to the Williams team and scored three podium finishes and sixth in the World Drivers Championship with the underpowered obsolescent Supertec engine. Schumacher's performance in the 2000 season was considered by many to be a disappointment. Running the powerful new BMW engine, he was expected to compete for wins, but despite only four mechanical failures and being the senior driver in the team, he was only able to match the three podium finishes of the previous year. In 2001, however, he broke through with his first three Grand Prix wins at Imola, Montreal and Hockenheim. In 2002, he won the Malaysian Grand Prix but finished the championship behind team mate Juan-Pablo Montoya, and in 2003, he won the European Grand Prix (at the Nürburgring) and the French Grand Prix, helping, along with teammate Juan Pablo Montoya the Williams team finish second in the Constructors Championship in 2002 and 2003.On June 20, 2004, Schumacher was seriously injured in an accident at the United States Grand Prix. The acceleration was measured at 78 g (765 m/s²), one of the most severe in all of motor racing history, resulting in a concussion as well as two minor fractures to his spinal column. This caused him to be sidelined for the majority of the season. more..

Massa was born in São Paulo, Brazil, and began karting when he was 8 years old. In 2000, he moved to Europe to compete in the Italian Formula Renault series. Whilst having the opportunity to move into Formula 3, he opted instead for the Formula 3000 Euro-Series, and was dominant, winning 6 of the 8 races to take the championship. He was offered an F1 test with the Sauber team, who promptly signed him for 2002. In his rookie year in Formula 1, Massa was paired with 1999 F3000 champion Nick Heidfeld at the Sauber team. Massa showed he was a competitive driver, but made several mistakes during his rookie season, including spinning off the track on several occasions. Massa scored 4 championship points in his first season, with a best result of 5th place in the Spanish Grand Prix .Massa suffered a one race suspension late in the season, forcing him to miss the United States Grand Prix. Although Massa returned to the driver's seat for the Japanese Grand Prix, Sauber confirmed that Frentzen would partner Heidfeld in 2003, and therefore, Massa was without a race seat at Sauber. Having impressed the team, and showing signs that his mistake rate had declined, Sauber re-signed Massa for the 2004 season. In 2004, Massa scored 12 of Sauber's 34 points, with his best result being a 4th place finish at the Belgian Grand Prix. In 2005, Massa remained with Sauber. Although he only scored 11 points, Massa outpaced his teammate Jacques Villeneuve through most of the season. more..

Whether you liked him or not, and for whatever reason, it would be difficult to argue against the fact that Juan Pablo Montoya added colour to F1 during his stay. In his first season as an F1 rookie he provoked plenty of controversy yet a surprised a lot of people at his potential. The eventful first year left everyone curious as to what heights this new talent would reach. What was most notable about Montoya was how he either raced brilliantly, or finished miserably. Though he must have been doing something right because Big Ron welcomed him into McLaren-Mercedes but it was his performance at McLaren that sometime let him down. Was it due to the fast yet unreliable car beneath him? Or was it because he had a potential world champion as a teammate? Was it due to his fiery and feisty temperament? Did all these factors combine to make his decision to leave the world of Formula One for NASCAR? more..

As a child, Alonso and his father, who also doubled as his mechanic, participated in karting competitions around Spain. His family lacked the financial resources needed to develop a career in motorsport, but his victories guaranteed sponsorships and the required funds. He won four Spanish championships in the junior category, in 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996. He also won the Junior World Cup in 1996. He won the Spanish and Italian Inter-A titles in 1997 and finished second of the European Championship in 1998, winning the Spanish Inter-A title again. Former Minardi F1 driver Adrián Campos gave Alonso his first test in a race car in October 1998. After three days of testing Alonso had matched the lap times of Campos' previous driver Marc Gene. Campos signed Alonso to race for him in the 1999 Spanish Euro Open MoviStar by Nissan. He won his first race at the second attempt that year, at the same Albacete circuit where he tested in 1998. By the final round of the season he needed to win and set fastest lap to beat rival Manuel Giao to the championship, which he did. Alonso also took the opportunity to test for the Minardi F1 team, where sporting director Cesare Fiorio saw him lap 1.5 seconds faster than the other drivers being tested by Minardi.[2] The following season Alonso moved up to Formula 3000, which was often the final step for drivers before ascending to Formula One. Alonso joined Team Astromega and was the youngest driver in the series that year by eleven months. Alonso didn't score a point until the seventh race of the year, but in the final two rounds he took a second place and a victory, enough for him to end the season fourth overall behind Bruno Junqueira, Nicolas Minassian and Mark Webber.
