Minichamps 1/18 Brawn GP Mercedes BGP001 F1 Team Jenson Button (150 090022)

In 2009 Button rode in the renamed Brawn GP Formula One Team, along with former Honda colleague Rubens Barrichello, who was supposed to be replaced by his fellow countryman Brunno Senna. Although the new team had only limited time to prepare for the first race, the first test drives of the Brawn BGP001 showed that the team was one step ahead of the competition. Experts doubted that the British race team was competitive enough and assumed that the fast lap times were only an instrument to search for the desperately needed sponsors, rather than serious trials.
The first race at Melbourne (Australia) confirmed the great early shape, which Brawn was in. After achieving the pole position in the qualifying session for the team, Button won the first race. A week later in Malaysia he repeated the exact same thing, but after two thirds into the race, it was abandoned, due to heavy rain. Further victories followed in Bahrain, Spain and the prestigious Monaco. He also won the seventh Grand Prix of the year, namely the race in Turkey. He took advantage of a mistake, made by Sebastian Vettel, who lost the lead in the first lap already. The following two races at Great Britain and Germany, which took place in cold weather conditions, were not marked by success. For the first time Brawn did not compete for the victory and Button only collected seven points, by finishing sixth and fifth respectively. Red Bull won both races and therefore the lead in the championship slowly melted. At the race in Hungary, Button was again not successful, although the weather conditions were quite good and high temperatures were achieved. At the end, he came in position seven and in the following race at the city circuit of Valencia, namely the Great Prize of Europe; Barrichello won the race and reinstated the regained excellent condition of the Brawn team. At the Great Prix of Belgium, Button did not finish for the first time in 2009, due to an accident with Sebastian Grosjean. Although his lead in the driver s championship decreased race by race, he profited from the fact that the starting grid was very close together, in terms of points, but his direct competitors for the championship title only caught up with him very slowly. With a fifth place at the second last race of the year, in Brazil, Button was able to secure his first World Championship title.
