Belgian driver Jérôme d’Ambrosio was born on the 27th December 1985, like most Formula 1™ drivers Jérôme started out racing in karts, between the years of 1997 and 2002 he was the three times Belgian champion. In 2003 Jérôme moved into the single-seater Formula Renault series, after taking part in various races across Europe he switched to the Euroseries 3000 earning three podium finishes before taking the Formula Masters.

In this series he won five races and became the category’s first ever champion. For the next two years he took part in the GP2 Series. In January 2010 Jérôme was announced as the reserve driver for Renault Formula 1™, the following year it was confirmed that he would drive for Virgin Racing, that season he drove in thirteen races. On the 24th January 2012 Lotus Formula 1™ Team announced that d’Ambrosio would be their reserve driver for the 2012 season. It was during this season that teammate Romain Grosjean was banned for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, which gave Jérôme his first opportunity to race at this level of motor racing, starting from 15th position on the grid, he managed to complete the race in 13th position.
