Rally of Monte Carlo:- The Principality of Monaco kicks off the 2000 World Championship on Thursday in what promises to be one of the most closely fought seasons for years. Mitsubishi's Tommi Makinen will be aiming to clinch an unprecedented fifth world title but Ford and Subaru both have strong line-ups. The Rally of Monte Carlo will be decided over 15 special stages Toyota may have withdrawn from the championship but Cologne-based Toyota Team Europe are still supplying cars to private teams. Bruno Thiry will drive a Corolla entered by Italy's Grifone Team and Henrik Lundgaard and Oliver Burri will compete in privately entered vehicles.
