Plastic kit of the Yakovlev YAK-1 fighter, flown by Soviet Air Force ace Lilia Litvyak,
credited with 12 kills before her death in 1943, aged 21. Kit contains over 90 parts with
recessed panel lines, fully detailed cockpit interior and wheel wells, plus optional tyres
and drop tanks. Paints and adhesive required.
With more than 36,000 produced the Yak series was the most produced fighter aircraft in history. First flown in 1940 these small planes helped reverse German fortunes during the Great Patriotic War. In the hands of a competent pilot these nimble planes were more than a match for the Luftwaffe's best. The Yak was constructed almost entirely from steel tubing, wood and fabric, making it boith rugged and lightweight.
