Revell 1/18 BMW 503 Convertible (08843)
BMW presented the elegant 503 in the autumn of 1955 at the International Motor Show in
Frankfurt. The design came from the hand of Count Albrecht Goertz, who had previously
designed car bodies primarily in the USA and who would also create the spectacularly sporty
507. This attractive vehicle, with its inspiring noble lines catered for the most
fastidious taste, despite the technical considerations that restricted the creativity of
Count Goertz. In particular the height of the front headlamps was specified in a way that
interfered with the planned downswing of the front mudguard. However these limitations in
no way reduced the popularity of this beautifully styled car. Awards in many concours d' l
gance were regularly heaped on the model 503 with its four-speed gearbox. The 503 was also
distinguished by many convenient features such as a brake booster as standard,
electro-hydraulic window winders and light and accurate steering.
