USS Alaska was a US Navy Alaska class Battle Cruiser and was the first ship, she entered service in June 17th 1944. Total
length :246.43 m, displacement :34253 tons, 150000 horsepower, maximum speed :32
knots. At a speed of 15 knots its range was 12000 nautical miles. After the
completion of the Alaska, she was mainly based with Mitchell's fleet
aircraft carriers and was the cruiser squadron flagship which provided protection for
aircraft carriers . At the end of World war 2 when the Japanese naval and air forces were near destruction, she participated in the bombardment of the Japanese mainland. After the
Japanese surrender, USS Alaska joined the seventh fleet on February 17th 1947,USS Alaska retired from active duty during the 1950's.
