Metropolitan Railway locomotive 9 was named John Milton during 1928 and is recreated by this model as running until the application of the London Transport name following the formation of the London Passenger Transport Board (LPTB) in 1933. No.9 carried its' nameplates until the end of 1942, but despite being restored to red livery, albiet unlined, in 1957 and remaining in service until the planned withdraw of the electric locomotives early in 1962 it appears the nameplates were not restored to this locomotive.

John Milton (1608-1674) was a noted poet. Born in London, his 'family home' was at Chalfont St.Giles which by the 1920s was considered part of the Metropolitans' suburban 'Metroland' area.
