Hornby OO BR 75008 Standard Class 4MT 4-6-0 BR Lined Green Late Crest R3547

Hornby Railways OO Gauge R3547 BR 75008 Standard Class 4MT 4-6-0 WR Double Chimney Version BR Lined Green Late Crest.
Expected July 2017

Hornbys' BR standard class 4MT 4-6-0 returns in late Western region format with double chimney, painted in lined green and displaying the ex-GWR blue route restriction 'spot' on the cabside.

The BR standard 4MT provided a useful combination of class 4 power within a maximum axle load limit which allowed a very wide route clearance. In the case of some routes these were the first large and modern locomotives able to be used and the 4MTs displaced a variety of life-expired motive power. On more important routes the 4MT proved to have a sufficient reserve of boiler capacity that class 5 duties could be tackled with confidence, especially after the fitting of the double chimney.
On the Western region the class is noted for it's service on the Cambrian section, supplementing the Collett manor class 4-6-0s.

Bachmann OO BR Class 9F 2-10-0 92220 Evening Star BR Green Late Crest 32-850A

Bachmann Branchline OO Gauge 32-850A BR 92220 Evening Star Riddles Class 9F 2-10-0 Heavy Goods Engine BR Lined Green Late Crest

Bachmann's 9F is a superbly detailed model of these powerful heavy freight locomotives. 92220 Evening Star, being the last steam locomotive to be built for British Railways, was uniquely completed by Swindon, painted in express passenger lined green livery and complete with a GWR style copper capped chimney and brass nameplates.
92220 Evening Star was always a special engine, especially when transferred to Bath for service on the Somerset & Dorset line where the powerful 9Fs were able to hauling heavy passenger trains over the steeply graded Mendips route unaided. As the last new steam locomotive built for British Railways 92220 joined the national collection on withdraw and has seen occasional service on heritage railways and mainline railtours.

Bachmann OO BR 82020 Standard Class 3MT 2-6-2 Tank Green Large Crest Weathered 31-980

Bachmann OO BR 82020 Standard Class 3MT 2-6-2 Tank Green Large Crest Weathered 31-980
This model of 82020 recreates one of the most noticable livery variations within the 3MT class after their first overhaul. Painted in plain (unlined) green 82020 received the large size crests usually used on the larger side sheets of tenders in place of the smaller tank engine version. The locomotive carries the other mark of a Western region engine, the GWR yellow route restriction 'spot' below the number.

A modern and highly successful design these locomotives offered a significant increase in power over the smaller class 2 versions, something which is always welcomed by footplate crews! Sadly however none of the class survived to preservation, having been replaced by multiple unit trains and the early, low-powered diesel locomotives by the mid 1960s.

80202 painted in plain brunswick green with lagre size lion holding wheel crests on the tank sides. Era 5 1957-1966.

Bachmann Branchline OO 32-359A BR Standard Class 4MT Tank 80092 BR Black Early Emblem

Built in the 1950s the 4MT 2-6-4 tank engines were intended for outer suburban passenger work, however these powerful tank engines proved very versatile and capable of hauling cross-country trains...as long as there were sufficient water stops! The 4MTs worked the local services over the famous Somerset and Dorset during the routes' final years.

The Bachmann model is powered by their proven motor and drive train, allowing relaitsic trains to be hauled with ease. The bodyshell has many separately fitted detail parts, faithfully reproducing the fittings on these locomotives.

80154 is painted in the BR mixed traffic lined black livery with the early unicycling lion emblem.

Hornby OO Railroad BR 92023 Class 9F 2-10-0 with Franco Crosti Boiler Black Late Crest Railroad Range R3274
RailRoad BR 2-10-0 Franco Crosti Boiler 9F Class - R3274

A 2015 model in the  Hornby Railroad range of the BR class 9F 2-10-0 heavy freight locomotive fitted with Crosti boiler and feed-water preheating. This was a very unusual boiler type on a British locomotive and it makes an impressive model.

In 1955 BR had experimentally built 10 9F locomotives which incorporated Franco Crosti boilers and although all were later converted to conventional boilers the actual appearance of the locomotive at the time was both striking and workmanlike. The Franco Crosti Class 9F an ideal model to be at the head of a full train of heavy freight wagons.

With a tractive effort of 39670 lbs and 5' driving wheels all 9F's were powerful and capable engines. As to the Crosti's, the hoped for improvement in steam production and hence performance didn't quite meet expectations and no more were produced. Adapted in various ways, the ten produced remained an interesting sub section of the 9F class.

Hornby OO Railroad BR 92027 Class 9F 2-10-0 with Franco Crosti Boiler Black Early Emblem Railroad Range R3273
RailRoad BR 2-10-0 Franco Crosti Boiler 9F Class - R3273

A long awaited model R3273, part of Hornby's Railroad range, of the BR class 9F 2-10-0 heavy freight locomotive fitted with a Crosti boiler and feed-water preheating.

In 1955 BR experimentally built 10 9F locomotives which incorporated Franco Crosti boilers, resulting in an engine that was both striking and workmanlike in appearance. The Crosti's were about 4 tons heavier than standard 9F's and initially allocated to 15A Wellingborough for use mainly on heavy midland's coal traffic. At time they ventured far and wide.

With a tractive effort of 39670 lbs and 5' driving wheels all the 9F's were powerful and capable engines. As to the Crosti's, the hoped for improvement in steam production and hence performance didn't quite meet expectations and no more were produced. Adapted in various ways, the ten produced remained an interesting sub section of the 9F class. Of the latter 92220 Evening Star was the last steam engine to be built by British Railways.
