Hornby R3238 SR 695 ex-LSWR 700 Class Black Motor 0-6-0 Goods Engine SR Black OO
A detailed model of the LSWRs' small but highly successful 700 class of 0-6-0 goods engines, nicknamed 'Black Motors'. The entire class of 30 locomotives was built at Dubs & Company (Glasgow) in 1897 to the designs of the LSWRs' Scottish locomotive engineer Dugald Drummond. The class proved to be well designed and built, requiring few modifications and surviving as a complete class until 1957. Using a boiler common to the M7 class 0-4-4 tank locos and having a useful mid-range tractive effort of 22,487lbs no doubt contributed to the survival of a quite small class of goods engines.
This model is painted in the Southern Railways' livery from the 1920s and 30s.
