A top quality model of the well-known Southern Railway M7 class 0-4-4 tank engine. Finely detailed to the standards set by Hornbys most recent models with many separate parts for individually fitted detail parts allowing for coal rail variations, push-pull and westinghouse fittings. The chassis is just as detailed with brake pull rods, sanding gear and pipe details. A pack of additional parts is supplied, containing NEM fitt couplings or dummy screw coupling options.
Inside the bodyshell is a 5-pole skew wound motor for smooth running, plus a weight placed over the driving axles and a DCC socket.

DCC Ready. 8 pin decoder requited for DCC operation.

The M7 tank engines were originally intended for suburban passenger duties, but were soon replaced by even more powerful locomotives and the start of the Southern third-rail electric network. Quickly finding employment of branch lines many of the class survived into the BR era and the type was familiar to many holidaymakers visiting South-West coastal resorts in the 1950's.
