Bachmann Branchline 31-214 LMS Patriot Class 45538 Giggleswick BR Lined Green E/Emblem

A detailed model of the LMS Patriot class 4-6-0 passenger locomotives, designed to haul secondary and cross-country express passenger trains. The Patriots appeared to be a smaller version of the Royal Scot class locomotives and represented an intermediate step in design evolution, Sir William Stanier updating the deisgn with a more efficient tapered boiler to create the Jubilee class.

Bachmanns' model is powered by their usual combination of motor and diecast chassis, capable of hauling realistic length passenger trains. The bodyshell is finely detailed, with many separately fitted val;ve gear, pipework and handrail parts.

The Patriots served well into the British railways era, though being older than the Jubilees, were withdrawn first and none survived for preservation. A project currently is underway to build a new example of the class.
DCC Ready with 8 Pin Socket.

Bachmann Branchline OO 31-433 Midland Class 1F 1739 LMS Black Open Cab

A detailed model of the first of the Midland Railway Jinty 0-6-0 side tank shunting engines. Designed for hardy Victorian enginemen the cab did not have a back sheet, so the interior can easily be seen and is fully detailed. Originally intended for shunting work these engines were quickly found to be ideal as general purpose branch line engines and could be found working passenger and goods trains on branches all over the former Midland Railway network. Gloucester based engines were well-known for the 'Dursley Donkey' serving Dursley and the Lister factory. One of these engines is preserved.
This model is finished in LMS black livery. Era 3 1923-1947.

These modern engines were built during the 1940s to replace the large number of Victorian era engines being used on the branchlines of the LMS network. These new, comfortable and efficient engines were popular with the crews and helped reduce costs, having the much in common with the 2MT 2-6-0 tender engines. Both types were adopted with minor changes as BR standard types and were found all over the rail network.

Bachmann OO BR 46526 Ivatt Class 2MT 2-6-0 Lined Green Late Crest Weathered 32-828A

Bachmann's nicely detailed model of the highly successful Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 finished in the popular lined brunswick green livery that was applied to a number of these locomotives.

The model features a locomotive mounted motor, fully detailed pipework and valve gear and 46526 is in lined green, completed with a weathered finish. This loco was one of the later engines that was fitted with slightly larger cylinders than the earlier members of the class.

This locomotive was based at Gloucester and is well known for working many Gloucestershire branch lines, including the Dursley Branch, where 46526 was frequently recorded on film hauling the branch passenger train consisting of a single brake third coach and a box van! The line did retain significant freight traffic to and from RA Listers' factory, so the crew would use a bit more of the class 2 moguls' power at times.

Hornby OO SD&JR 44 Class 2P 4-4-0 Somerset & Dorset Prussian Blue Livery R3316
The Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway was a nominally independant railway between Bath and Bournemouth, with branches serving the Somerset levels. The company was owned jointly by the Midland and London South Western railway companies, later LMS and Southern, with the parent companies providing engineering support. As a result the majority of the locomotive power followed Midland/LMS practice, including a batch of Midland Railway class 2P 4-4-0 passenger locomotives, which carried the Somerset & Dorsets' prussian blue livery until the 1920s.
This model recreates S&DJR number 44 as it would have appeared during the early 1900s and until the grouping on 1923.

S&DJR number 89 was built by the Robert Stephenson company in 1925 and after an adventurous career including running away on the grade into Bath, survived as BR 53809 to become one of the two preserved S&D '7 Freights', normally base at the Midland Railway Centre.
The steeply graded Somerset and Dorset route into the Somerset coal field demanded powerful and robust locomotives. designed at Derby specifically for the route these 7Fs were large and modern engines in 1914 and the fleet was expanded in 1925 to 11.

Just 3 locomotives were completed before nationalisation in 1948,  LMS 3000 is modelled in as-built condition, with double chimney and late LMS black livery.
The locomotives were not successful in this form, suffering from poor steaming and single chimneys were later fitted to increase smokebox vacuum and therefore draught on the fire. 3000 would probably have carried this livery until modifed at its first overhaul.

Designed for suburban passenger service the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railways' 'radial' 2-4-2 tank engines, despite their small size, proved quite capable of hauling some express trains and particularly important 'business' trains. Allied to a large diameter boiler this provided a powerful locomotive well suited to the requirements of the LMS Railway.
Generally considered to be a 'class 5' engine the Crab was one of the first modern locomotive designs in the LMS fleet and on some duties the 'crab' was preferred even to the later and highly regarded Stanier 'Black 5'.
Built from 1926 to 1932 these engines remained in service until the mid-1960s.

Bachmann Branchline OO 35-050 LNWR 1054 Webb 0-6-2 Coal Tank locomotive, LNWR black livery.
Sole preserved example of this class.

    Expected May 2017

The LNWR built 300 'Coal Tank' 0-6-2 locos between 1881 and 1897, with 64 reaching British Railways in 1948. These engines represent a signature LNWR locomotive design which saw service across a wide area, from the far North West of England to the Black Country and South Wales. The Coal Tanks undertook the traditional duties associated with branchline and pick-up goods services. This new model will make an excellent companion and alternative to the Midland 1F and 3F locos (also available from Bachmann) for these duties.

Designed by F.W.Webb in 1881 for the London and North Western Railway (LNWR) the 'Coal Tank' was a tank engine version of the LNWRs' standard 0-6-0+tender goods engines. The tank engine version utilised the same cast iron H spoke driving wheels with a radial trailing truck to support the coal bunker.

One locomotive, LNWR 1054, LMS 7799, BR 58926, was purchased from British Railways for preservation and is currently working on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

Bachmann Branchline OO 35-052 BR 58900 ex-LNWR Webb 0-6-2 Coal Tank locomotive, BR black livery early emblem.

As iconic as the GWR's 2-6-2 'prairie' tanks the Coal Tank is a signature LNWR locomotive design which saw service across a wide area, especially under LMS ownership, undertaking the traditional duties associated with branchline and pick-up goods services. This new model will make an excellent companion and alternative to the Midland 1F and 3F locos (also available from Bachmann) for these duties.
One locomotive, LNWR 1054, LMS 7799, BR 58926, was purchased from British Railways for preservation and is currently working on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway.

Era 4, British Railways 1948-1957. DCC and Sound Ready Next 18 decoder required for DCC operation, sound decoder and speaker required for sound operation.

Hornby OO Gauge R3385TTS BR Class 5MT ex-LMS Black 5 4-6-0 with TTS Sound

    Expected May 2017

Sir William Stanier brought the Churchward standardisation concept to the LMS when he joined the company as Chief Mechanical Engineer. Adapting Swindon practice to the needs of the LMS saw the creation of a large class of 4-6-0 locomotives in power class 5, which had proven the most useful mixed traffic type on the GWR. The new Black 5 quickly became a favourite with LMS loco men to, having capacity to spare for regular cross-country passenger services and fast goods trains, giving confidence when something heavier or faster had to be taken on. Black 5s were among the last steam locomotives withdrawn from service with British Railways in August 1968.

This model of 45116 features Hornbys TTS Sound system, really giving life to this model of one of the most useful and versatile locomotive classes ever built.

These large and powerful tank engines were built for heavily loaded suburban passenger services. The large water capacity gave the engines a good range, allowing them to be used on mainline stopping passenger trains, with the advantage of the tank engines not requiring to use a turntable before starting the return journey.

Hornby Railways OO Gauge R3553 LMS 6231 Duchess of Atholl Princess Coronation Class 4-6-2 LMS Crimson Lake Livery

A new re-tooled model of the Stanier Princess Coronation class 4-6-2 pacific built for the LMS in the 1930s finished as LMS 6231 Duchess of Atholl in the classis LMS crimson lake livery.

The story of the Princess Coronation Class is one of split personalities and purposes and represents the difference in opinions and attitudes between design on the one hand, and perceived cost savings on the other. The original streamlined form of the class arose from tests by the London Midland Scottish Railway?s Research Department on Stanier?s development of the Princess Royal class locomotives. Stanier was said to be ambivalent about the economic value of streamlining, but was aware of the publicity value of such a design. When the opportunity to produce five conventional versions of the Coronation Pacific as a comparison to the streamlined version arose, Stanier was quoted as saying, ?They can have their streamliners if they b***** want them, but we will also build them five proper ones?.

The LMS Royal Scot class were built to haul the London to Scotland expresses on the LMS west coast route, but had been displaced by the new Stanier pacifics in the 1930s. The class had not been particularly outstanding in performance and Sir William Stanier began a rebuilding programme for the class, fitting a more modern tapered boiler with Belpaire firebox to improve steaming capacity, better suiting the Royal Scots to the secondary express services needed during the 1940s.
