When railway tracks were first laid in Great Britain and trains began operating to a timetable the Royal Mail were one of the first to take advantage of this new mode of transport, using the trains to pick up and deliver post to all areas of the country, it is therefore fitting that the Royal Mail have produced a series of stamps celebrating some of the famous classes of steam locomotives that have operated on the British Isles.
In conjunction with the Royal Mail, Hornby have produced a series of Limited Edition models to coincide with the individual subjects of the stamps. Included in each of the specially produced presentation packs will be not only the relevant model but also a special Royal Mail cover envelope complete with stamp, the subject matter of which corresponds with the model. Each pack will also include a limited edition certificate. Limited to just 1200 pieces these exclusive models are sure to become a sort after collectors item.
This model of 6002 King William IV is finished in the GWRs locomotive green livery with Great western lettering, as carried in the 1920s and early 1930s.
The locomotive model will be supplied with a Royal Mail cover envelope bearing the King stamp and a limited edition certificate.
