| > Military > Dragon Armour | | Dragon are steadily expanding this range of superb models, crafted in plastic for maximum detail definition with some metal parts and finished in authentic camouflage schemes. Tracks are one piece rubber but give a good effect. Nicely boxed - good plastic display box inside a cardboard outer. Model length is about 4 1/2" (115mm) - based on Tiger 1. Most have rotable turrets and a gun that elevates. Fine detail incudes ropes, shackles and tools carried on the chassis, plus smoke dischargers, machine guns and external petrol tanks appropriate for each model. Best of all these models are pre-painted with sharp, accurate and authentic camouflage and realistic weathering. | Dragon Can-Do 1/144 Warrior MCV - Assorted camouflage schemes (20108W) A very finely detailed model of the British Army's Warrior AFV, providing transport and mobile armoured fire support for infantry regiments. At 1/144 scale it's just 50mm/2in long! Three Warriors are available, Cheshire Regiment UNPROFOR 1992 Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters IFOR 1996 and Black Watch Iraq 2003. This superb miniature of one of the British Army's most widely used light tanks is supplied with a display case and moulded base, but will be equally suitable for display on model railways and for wargaming. NB Models are supplied at random and some versions are limited production specials. We will endeavour to meet requests for set or identical versions subject to stock availability. Challenger 2 MBT also available. The Warrior is an armoured infantry fighting vehicle (AIFV) that replaced the AFV 432 in the armoured infantry battalions.
The original buy of 1,048 vehicles was reduced to 789 units. Of this total, the vast majority had been delivered by early 1995. The vehicle is in service with three Armoured Infantry Battalions in the UK (with 3 (UK) Div) and six Armoured Infantry Battalions in Germany (with 1 (UK) Armd Div). Warrior, armed with the 30mm Rarden Cannon gives the crew a good chance of destroying enemy Armoured Personnel Carriers at ranges of up to 1,500metres. The vehicle carries crew of two and eight dismounted infantry.
The vehicle is NBC proof, and a full range of night vision equipment is included as standard. The basic Warrior is part of a family of vehicles, which include a Milan ATGW carrier, a mechanised recovery vehicle, an engineer combat version and an artillery command vehicle, to name but a few.
The vehicle has seen successful operational service in the Gulf (1991) and with the British contingent serving with the UN in Bosnia. The vehicle has proven protection against mines, and there is dramatic BBC TV footage of a Warrior running over a Serbian anti-tank mine with little or no serious damage to the vehicle or crew .
The Kuwait MoD has signed a contract for the purchase of warrior vehicles some of which are Recce vehicles armed with a 90mm Cockerill gun. Industry sources suggest that the Kuwait contract is for 230 vehicles.
The hull and mechanical components of Warrior are exceptional and few other vehicles in the world can match it for reliability and performance. The Warrior armament fire control system and electronics require upgrading if the vehicle is to remain in service to 2025 as intended. | |
