Dragon Armor 1/72 60260 German Army Sherman Firefly Vcb Model
Dragon Armor has produced something really special and unique with its newest release! Its not just a Sherman, or a Firefly Vc, or a captured tank, but a Sherman Firefly Vc completely repainted in German camouflage and markings! This captured tank from an unidentified unit is embellished in a three-tone German camouflage scheme adorned with white Balkenkreuze on the turret and hull sides. The 1/72 scale model certainly has a very Germanic feel, there is not a flake of green from the usual British monotone paint scheme visible so this model has a startling and dramatic impact on viewers. With its powerful 17pdr gun, this particular tank was operated by a German unit in 1944, and it obviously makes a rare subject for any AFV model collection. The unique camouflage scheme is enhanced by a realistic degree of weathering on the hull and tracks. It may be true that a leopard cannot change its skin, but Dragon Armor has just proved that a Firefly can!
In terms of armor protection and main armament lethality, Allied tank development was well behind that of Germany throughout WWII. The only British tank, for example, that could hope for some kind of parity with heavier German tanks was the Sherman Firefly, a British adaptation of the Sherman that mounted a 17pdr gun. However, in terms of mechanical reliability and robustness, as well as industrial production capacity, the Allies were more than a match for the Third Reich. As the war wore on and Germanys industrial might could no longer keep pace in terms of tank production, captured Russian and Allied tanks were sometimes put into service as a matter of desperation or expediency.
