This point motor is designed to mount alongside a point, avoiding the need to cut a hole into the baseboard to fit a motor below each point.

Note that the green wire is the common return wire.

Peco Point Motor (PL-10)

Peco Point Motor Extended Pin (PL-10E)

The PL10-E point motor is fitted with a long point operating pin, ideal for mounting beneath baseboards. A small 10mm (3/8in) hole through the baseboard is required, located directly beneath the operating pin attachment location on the point. The pin will then reach through the board and locate into the operating pin attachment hole of the point. The pin can then be trimmed to length with a good side or track cutter tool. Peco strongly recommend that the PL10E be used in conjunction with a PL-9 Mounting Plate, fitted directly to the base board underneath the point. Operation is from a passing contact switch or probe and stud system to give a pulse from the 16v AC outlet found on most transformers (2 amps required). If this isn't available an uncontrolled 12v DC supply may suffice. A constant current would burn out the motor.

Peco Point Motor Low Current (PL-10W)

This point motor is designed to operate with the lower amperage found on some European transformers or with DCC systems*. Operation is from a passing contact switch or probe and stud system to give a pulse from the 16v AC outlet found on most transformers. If this isn't available an uncontrolled 12v DC supply may suffice. A constant current would burn out the motor.

* Although the initial amperage from DCC systems is very high, say 10 amps, the final amps avaialble to accessories such as point motors is very low, once the current has passed through the booster units used in DCC systems.

A new point motor type from Peco incorporating the extended operating pin, allowing the motor to be mounted to the underside of baseboards, with the low current solenoid design.

These motors have a lower power? consumption,? designed with? DCC systems in mind allowing these motors to be controlled by point/accessory decoders.

If it is wished to fit the turnout motor above the baseboard, rather than below, then the adaptor base is used. An extension arm included allows the motor to be positioned up to 40mm away from the track. The whole unit, including motor, can be disguised by placing a small building, such as an LK-4 Lineside Hut, over it.

Gaugemaster Model CDU - Capacitor Discharge Unit (CDU)

A Capacitor Discharge Unit (CDU) provides a reserve of charge to ensure that a good voltage is available to throw point motors. Especially useful when several motors are thrown by one lever, setting cross-overs for example.

The unit stores up power in capacitors and when a point motor is actuated, discharges in one big punch giving the point motor a firm and positive switching action. Connected to points via switches or probe and studs. Prevents burnt out motors.
