Bachmann OO EWS 46 Tonne VGA Sliding Wall Van (37-606A)

A netaly detailed model of the BR VGA design covered van, painted in the EWS maroon colours.

The VGA van was the final development in 4-wheel freight wagons produced by BR for the air brake Speedlink services. The vans have two half-length sliding doors on each side, each designed to move otwards and along the face of the other door. This permits half of the floor area of the wagon to be accessed for loading by fork-lift truck, greatly speeding up loading and unloading. The majority of these VGA wagons remain in service today on EWS Enterprise freight services.

A small fleet of these wagons were operated for British Leyalnd to transport body panels, engines and other motor vehicle parts between factories. At it's peak the British Leyland group had 46 factories in the UK, plus assembly plants or supplier agreements with France, Belgium, Holland, Denmark & Spain. Many plants specialised in specific components, so these vans were kept busy supplying the assembly lines.

This model is lettered Leyland Cars alongside the company logo. Standard Hornby tension-lock couplers are supplied with each wagon.
A similar vehicle lettered British Leyland is also available.

Bachmann OO Traffic Services Ltd. Bulk Grain Bogie Hopper Wagon (38-427)

A new OO scaled model of the large bulk grain wagons, often called Polybulks, a design which is used throughout Europe with vehicles travelling through the channel tunnel.

First introduced in the UK for hauling grain these wagons are used for many low-density granular and powder cargos. The bulbous appearance maximises the internal volume of the hopper while retaining the smooth internal faces and angled slopes needed to ensure the wagon is self-clearing by gravity discharge. In service these wagons often operate on specific flows, ranging from single wagons to full trainloads.

Elaborate construction includes detailed ends with etched catwalk, brake and under floor hopper discharge equipment representation, detailed body side brake piping and individual hand wheels.

The model is of the 1991 KIA Hooded flat wagon. In Tiphook Rail 'Steel Express' livery. This Ferry wagon and later channel tunnel approved wagon was used to carry importer steel to stockholders in the Midlands and North East. As such it's working duties took it from the port of Dover up to the Scottish Borders. This actual wagon is one of the 55 strong batch, which was hired to Reed and Sutcliffe for Coil traffic.
This wagon shows leasing details of Reed & Sutcliffe, Boston Docks.

The model is lightly weathered and is produced in a one time production run of 500 pieces. Commisioned by Ontracks as part of the Golden Valley Hobbies range.
