The Megafret wagon was developed to convey the taller ISO containers within the BR loading gauge, greatly expanding the rail market share of deep-sea container buisness.
The wagons are designed to run in permanently coupled pairs, with each wagon having standard couplings and drawgear at one end only, freeing up clear deck space to accommodate the 45-foot containers in a similar wagon length as is used by a single wagon carrying one 40-foot container.
