Dapols' boxed train packs are a welcome addition to the British N gauge product range.

This milk train pack provides a complete N gauge Western region milk train from the early 1970s era. Powered by one of Dapols superb new platinum range Hymek diesel locomotive models in a nicely weathered BR blue livery the train of 6 individually numbered and weathered 6-wheel milk tank wagons. Milk trains ran daily from the far west of england to London, hauled by the wesren regions' diesel hydraulic locomotives until the mid-1970s. This train pack is an ideal addition to any western region layout set in the BR blue era.

D804 Avenger represents the hydraulics towards the end of their careers, painted in the corporate blue livery.

Green was probably the main Warship livery, the class did not start receiving the maroon livery of the later Westerns until 1966, by which time the corporate rail blue livery was being agreed. Most of the class did make it into a variation of maroon for a brief time before the corporate livery wiped away the regional identities again.

D815 Druid carries the second style of maroon livery with the entire end painted in warning yellow.

This model of D7018, which is preserved on the West Somerset Railway, is painted in early BR two-tone green livery with small yellow warning panels. On this model the front lower valance, painted in sherwood green. extends across the top of the buffer beam.

Equipped with a smooth running skew-wound motor the Hymek running is exemplary as the locomotive is heavy enough to haul a realistic train. The chassis incorporates a NEM 651 6-pin DCC socket and directional lighting. The cab interior is painted and a bag of accessories including air pipes, snowploughs and spare NEM couplings is supplied. An effective model of a locomotive class that was able to cope well with freight or passenger duties.

The popular Dapol Hymek is scheduled to return for October.

This model of D7093 is painted in the two-tone green livery, which perhaps best suited these locomotives, with small yellow warning panels. On this model the front lower valance painted in the sherwood green extends across the top of the buffer beam.

Possibly the smallest ready-to-run British N gauge model, the Graham Farish 04 class diesel shunter does not compromise on detail.

BR class 20 locomotive in the corporate blue livery with the old D series numbering before the TOPS computer number system was introduced in the early 1970s.

An entirely new N gauge class 37 model featuring the original design bodyshell with split headcode boxes. 37038 represents the early BR blue period, with the buffer cowls still in place.

The Graham Farish BR class 37 is a nicely detailed and good running locomotive, just like the prototypes. The centrally mounted motor drives to both bogies and all wheel power collection ensures smooth and steady running.

37417 represents a refurbished member of the class, fitted with electric train supply to power air conditioned and electrically heated coaches. Painted in the revised rail blue livery with large double-arrow logo, the cab sides also carry the Highland Lines stag emblem applied to many locomotives allocated to Scotish region sheds.

New model for 2008

The BR class 37s were very versatile locomotives and several sub-classes were formed in the 1980s to reflect modifications for specific duties. This freight version from the 37/6 sub-class carries the blue livery of 'shadow franchise' freight company Transrail.

Nicely detailed model of the BR class 40, one of the most distinctive of BR's early diesels. A centrally mounted motor drives the six powered axles on the prototype, with a die cast chassis providing weight for train haulage. This model carries the BR green livery with grey roof as seen in the 1960's.

BR class 44 locomotive BR green livery. These were among the first British mainline diesel locomotives. Although quickly replaced in passenger service by lighter and more powerful designs they served in heavy freight service into the early 1980's.

An excellent model of the BR class 50 locomotive in refurbished condition. Powered by a centrally mounted motor with drive to all six axles and a heavy diecast chassis these models are easily able to haul realistic trains.

50037 Illustrious is painted in the standard blue livery applied to BR locomotives from the late 1960's until liveries were revised in the mid 1980's.

NRM Heritage Range. BR class 55 'Deltic' locomotive 55002 'The Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry' in BR two-tone green livery. These powerful locomotives were built to speed up services on the East coast mainline during the 1960's. Before final withdraw in the early 1980's their enthusiast following took them all over the BR network on special tour trains.

Twin Deltic engines with their triangular cylinder layout made the class 55 BRs most powerful express passenger locomotives for many years. This Graham Farish model captures the bulk of the locomotive, while the diecast chassis, centrally mounted motor and six-axle drive provides the power to match the prototypes' speed.

55 008 The Green Howards in BR blue

Rebuilt from class 47 locomotives with a new EMD engine fitted to an overhauled and strengthened bodyshell. These locomotives took over Freightliner container trains, an ideal and colourful addtion to post-privatistion layouts along with the Graham Farish container flats.

Freightliner class 57 locomotive

An excellent model of the striking silver and purple liveried class 57/6 prototype locomotive, as used by Poerterbrook and First Great Western to test and prove the class 57 rebuild design with electric train supply before delivery of production locomotives. 57601 operated intensively on First Great Western, hauling daytime trains formed with air conditioned Mk2 coaches and the Night Riviera sleeper service from London to Penzance until replaced by the production FGW 57/6's.

Converted from BR class 47 locomotives Virgin Trains class 57's are used to assist or rescue ailing trains. Stand-by locomotives have long been referred to as Thunderbirds, after the TV series of the same name, with Virgin Trains naming these locomotives after characters from the series.

Converted from BR class 47 locomotives Freightliner's class 57s were intended to provide reliable motive power for the new freight operator. Revised plans resulted in the company purchasing class 66s similar to EWS, however the 57 fleet continues to operate, often paired with a 66.

Converted from BR class 47 locomotives following trials of the prototype conversion 57602 (also due from Graham Farish). First Great Western ordered a small fleet of these locomotives to replace ageing class 47s on overnight sleeper train duties. The locomotives also undertake stoke movements, assist and rescue duties for First Great Western.

The Freightliner class 57s have recently been sold on to other operators, 57011 being purchased by DRS and painted in their latest blue livery with compass logos.

This model replicates this new livery on the 57 in N gauge.

This new model from Graham Farish brings Bachmann OO detailing to the N gauge range. The centrally mounted motor drives all six axles while the diecast chassis has been carefully designed  to keep the cab interiors clear and provide extra space behind the large bodyside grilles. This has allowed the body structe memebres and equipment visible through the grilles to be represented very effectively. Roof detailing is also excellent, with good relief around the large exhaust silencer box making this unit stand out. Wire handrails and sanding pipes complete the factory fitted details, while direction controlled lighting really makes the locomotive stand out when running.

Standard N gauge couplers are fitted, a small additional bag is supplied containing the deep headstock plates and plows, plus the air brake pipes for modellers wishing to finish their models with these.

A steam locomotive style nameplate has been fitted, marking the links between the football club and the LNER B17 class locomotives, nicknamed Footballers due to the naming of many members of the class after football clubs.

The body detailing of the Dapol model accuratley represents the low emission bodyshell design used on the more recent class 66 locomotives and is completed with a fine etched roof grille.

Dapol have announced that the BRCW type 2, later BR class 26 locomotive models are at an advanced design stage with tooling being designed to allow both the 26/0 and 26/1 design variants to be recreated in N gauge.
The Birmingham Sulzers, classes 26 and 27, will always be closely associated with the Scottish Highland Lines, which are themselves an excellent sources of inspiration for modelling.
