Dapol N BR 27108 Class 27 Birmingham Sulzer Bo-Bo Blue 2D-013-000
A detailed model of the second series of the Birmingham design Sulzer engined type 2s. Designated class 27 by BR these locomotives quickly migrated to Scotland, where their reliability was appreciated on the highland lines.
The 27/1 sub-class was created to improve services on the Glasgow Edinburgh shuttle service, using two class 27 locomotives, one at either end of a set of BR Mk.2 coaches, in place of multiple unit trains. 24 locomotives were specially overhauled to prepare them for the rigours of continual high speed operation and automatic fire supression was fitted, allowing the locomotive to operate remotely. This dedicated fleet was first classified 27/1, then class 27/2 was created to identify those locomotives also fitted with diesel generators providing electric train heating power.
Dapol are releasing models of the 27/2 type as non-motorised dummy locomotives, the single powered 27/1 model being quite capable of hauling a realistic train and the dummy locomotive at the rear.
