Replicas of the sort of classic gun designs which first appeared before 1870 are not considered to be realistic imitation firearms under the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006 (Realistic Imitation Firearms) Regulations 2007 - see paragraph 10. However, unless they look so different to a real gun (for example, futuristic space guns) that they are not regarded as realistic firearms at all, they are still classed as imitation firearms and can only be sold to persons aged 18 or over.
