Depicting ‘Alice’, the locomotive built for the Dinorwic Quarry and after which the ‘Alice Class’ was named, this new model builds on the success of its smaller, award-winning Bachmann Narrow Gauge OO9 scale cousin. The larger NG7 scale affords a higher level of detail, along with an enhanced technical specification which includes a Next18 DCC decoder socket, pre-fitted speaker and firebox lighting system – which comes into full effect when the hinged firebox door is posed in the open position.

Every locomotive needs a crew, and this Footplate Crew by Scenecraft is designed to be used with both the open-cab and enclosed-cab Quarry Hunslet locomotives in our Bachmann Narrow Gauge NG7 range, along with other 7mm scale steam locomotives.

The humble slate wagon was an obvious choice to accompany the Quarry Hunslet locomotives as part of Bachmann Narrow Gauge’s NG7 launch range, however we’ve gone a step further and modelled not only the basket wagons used to transport finished slates, but the flat beds and coal wagons too. Based on those wagons used at Dinorwic Quarry in North Wales, once the second largest slate quarry in the world, these wagons worked on a vast narrow gauge railway network which was employed to move materials around the site. Flat bed wagons were used to transport slabs of slate from the rock face to dressing and finishing buildings and could also be employed to move other large, bulky items around the quarry.

The Dinorwic Quarry was set up to mine the slate found in abundance in parts of North Wales, with the finished slate moved by narrow gauge railways to ports and transhipment sites. Depicting dressed slates ready to leave the quarry, these Slate Loads are suitable for use either on their own as scenic decoration or loaded on to our Bachmann Narrow Gauge NG7 Dinorwic Wagons.
