The battleships facing the South East Loch were the first target of the Japanese torpedo bombers. Counter floodind and shallow water enabled the USS West Virginia to settle on the bottom upright but Oklahoma rotated by over 160 degrees during sinking. The wreck was righted by parbuckling and pumped out and re-floated. She set off under tow to be repaired in the US but sank under tow in the Pacific on the way.
