The combined South Eastern and Chatham Railway under it's joint management committee contributed a large fleet of wagons to the Southern railway at the 1922 grouping. Serving the Kent coal field the SECR had a fleet of standard RCH coal wagons, including 1,850 wagons to the RCH 1907 7 plank specifications which were given SR diagram number 1357 which had been built in the years prior to WW1. Most of the wagons passed into Southern Railway ownership, supplemented by 'war surplus' wagons from the WD and formed backbone of the Southerns' coal and minerals wagon fleet for many years.
A very small number survived into the BR-era but no evidence of any carrying BR livery has ever been found. It is likely that, now approaching 40 years in service, when RCH 1907 wagons needed sufficiently major repairs to also require repainting British Railways simply scrapped them.
