Wirral 1/1200 L33 TSS Camito, Fyffes banana boat in 1970-72
TSS Camito is a second-hand, 1/1200 scale waterline model of the Fyffes combi-liner providing a fortnightly service between Southampton and the West Indies with her sister-ship, Golfito into the 1970s. The model is in very good condition, see photograph.
Although the model has been made using a Wirral Miniature Ships casting of a Len Jordan kit, the model has the appearance of having been assembled and painted by Classic Ships of Kidderminster. Unusually, the funnel has the red band and white diamond that Fyffes adopted around 1970, so the model is accurate from 1970-72 when she was withdrawn from service and laid up in Southampton. In 1973 she sailed to the Far East via the Panama Canal for scrapping with the red band painted out with black paint.
