Ellen Smith celebrated its centenary in the year 2000. The operators began in Rochdale and by the 1920's were operating a fleet of lorries that converted to passenger carrying vehicles at the weekend. In the 1930's the Smith family decided to concentrate solely on the coach side of the business. The companys emblem, a tiger was introduced in the 1930s when their latest purchase happned to be a Leyland Tiger. The company was purchased by Rossendale Transport in 1991 then bought by a Management buy out, by John White and Paul Targett in 2002. The re-branded coaches of which this Bova Futura FHD is the latest addition, are now a regular sight on the roads of Britain and Europe.
