Although well proven and inexpensive, Nicad (Nickel Cadmium, NiCd) rechargable batteries are gradually being replaced by NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) rechargeables that offer higher capacity and so last longer between charges. The price is higher but in heavy duty applications is well worth it.
