Quartzo 1/43 Brabham BT49C S Marino GP 1981 - Hector Rebaque (QFC99050)
Hector Alonso Rebaque was born on February 5th 1956 in Mexico City This well-heeled and quite promising Mexican came into F1 after some feisty US Formula Atlantic outings, trying his hand first with Hesketh and then with his own private Lotus. His 1979 season was complicated when he commissioned his own Lotus 79 facsimile, but he returned to full-time F1 in the middle of 1980 when he replaced Ricardo Zunino in the Brabham F1 ranks alongside Nelson Piquet. He brought sponsorship from the Mexican petroleum company, Pemex, and would probably have shown better form in European races had he not insisted on jetting home to Mexico between each event.more..

Quartzo 1/43 1951 Ferrari 375 - Piero Tarrufi (Q4119)
Known as the 'silver fox' because of his shock of prematurely silver hair, Taruffi was an all-round sportsman, qualified as Doctor of Industrial Engineering and spent many years dovetailing the task of managing the Gilera motorcycle team with his many car racing commitments. He started racing on motorbikes in the 1920s before switching to cars. His first four-wheel race was in a Fiat in 1923. He raced in the Mille Miglia for the first time in 1930, finishing third in 1933, but it would take him another twenty-four years to win the famous Italian road race, a success he achieved in its final edition. When the official World Championship began in 1950 he drove an Alfa 158 in the Italian Grand Prix, switching to Ferrari the following year when he finished fifth in the Championship rankings. In 1952 he won his sole World Championship Grand Epreuve, the Swiss Grand Prix at Berne, in a Formula 2 Ferrari 500. From then on his Formula 1 career dipped as he signed for Lancia to drive sports cars in 1954. He guested in a Ferrari at Monza, an outing he repeated in 1956, but he was fifty-one when he finally bagged that Mille Miglia victory the following year, and thereafter he quit the cockpit. In retirement his book, The Technique of Motor Racing (published 1966), is regarded as one of the sport's all-time classics.more..

Brumm 1/43 Vanwall F1 GP Europa 1957 Stirling Moss - Tony Brooks (R098)
An important aspect of this car was that unlike BRM, Vandervell would use only the best components regardless of which country they originated in. The Costin designed body was striking in its teardrop shape and under body treatment. The Vanwall's low-drag shape was needed in negating its high frontal area. It's wide body results from the side tanks used as part of a three-tank arrangement. It's height; another striking feature was 3 3/4 feet tall. Later in it's life Vanwall even tried a canopy for the car at Monza but the racket inside was unbearable to the driver and it was abandoned. The car proved fast out of the box but suffered reliability problems and high-speed handling was suspect. For 1957 Vandervell had two goals, improve reliability and hire the best drivers available - preferably British. The rear suspension was replaced with what would become known as a Chapman strut while the dampers were replaced with German units. Stirling Moss was available and a test was set up so that he could compare the leading British cars including a BRM, Connaught and Vanwall. He found the Vanwall to have the best potential and was promptly signed along with another driver who had made a name for himself driving the Connaught to victory at Syracuse, Tony Brooks. After more reliability problems victory was gained, fittingly at the British Grand Prix. At the Italian Grand Prix the Vanwalls qualified 1-2-3 with Moss scoring a victory on the Italians home ground. 1958 saw Moss in a Vanwall battle the Ferrari of Hawthorn for the World Championship. In the end he lost the title to Hawthorn by one point though he had won more races at 4 to Hawthorn's 1. Facing mounting costs and poor health Vandervell decided to end Vanwall full-time racing operation at the end of the year. Even though its history was short lived the door was now open for other British constructors to challenge and beat the best of the continental powersmore..

Brumm 1/43 Vanwall F1 Model Car 1958 Stirling Moss (R199)
Sir Stirling Moss OBE (born September 17, 1929 in London) is a British former racing driver from England. His success in a variety of categories placed him among the world's elite - he is often called "the greatest driver never to win the World Championship".Moss, who raced from 1948 to 1962, won 194 of the 497 races he entered, including 16 Formula One Grands Prix. He once told an interviewer that he had participated in 525 races overall, as many as 62 in a single year, in 84 different cars. Like many drivers of the era, he competed in several formulae - sometimes at the same time.During his career, Moss drove a private Jaguar, and raced for Maserati, Vanwall, Cooper, and Lotus, as well as Mercedes-Benz. He preferred to race British cars stating "Better to lose honorably in a British car than win in a foreign one". The British cars were often uncompetitive and this was considered the reason he never won the drivers' championship. At Vanwall, he was instrumental in breaking the German/Italian stranglehold on F1 racing (as was Jack Brabham at Cooper).more..

Brumm 1/43 Mercedes W196C Monza 1955 Stirling Moss (R281)
At the end of 1953 the racing world sprang to attention at the news that Mercedes-Benz would be returning to Grand Prix racing the following year. Alfred Moss and Stirling's manager Ken Gregory approached Mercedes team manager Alfred Neubauer with the suggestion that young Moss might be considered for a place in the team, but Neubauer was not convinced. He wanted to see Stirling at the wheel of a fully-fledged Formula 1 car before making such a decision. As a result, with the generous support of BP, Moss acquired a Maserati 250F and set out to prove himself to Neubauer. By the time the brilliant young English driver had dominated the Italian Grand Prix, his private Maserati pulling away from Fangio's Mercedes until it was sidelined due to failing oil pressure, Neubauer was convinced. Moss was welcomed into the Mercedes fold in 1955 and duly won his first Grand Prix at Aintree.
