The continental model used the Ford Taunus V4 engine in 1.3, 1.5 and 1.7 L displacement, while the British versions were powered by the Ford Kent straight-4 in 1.3 and 1.6 L form. The Cologne V6 2.0 L served as initial range-topper. Until the end of the year, new sports versions were added: the 2300 GT in Germany, using a double-barrel carburettor and 125 PS (92 kW), and the 3000 GT in the UK, with the Essex V6, capable of 138 hp (103 kW).more..

The Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo, Seat for short, was founded in 1950. Fiat also had some shares in this mixed company which was part state owned and part privately owned. At the end of 1953 they also started to produce some Fiat models under licence in Barcelona. From 1957 these included the Fiat 600, which was supplied by the Spanish works as the Seat 600. Technically this small car was similar to the successful Italian original; thus the Seat 600 had an integral body, front leaf springs and rear coil springs. Despite its small size, it offered four adequately proportioned seats and the water-cooled engine was in the rear. As in Italy a few years previously, from 1963 it was followed by the modified Type D, the four-cylinder rear engine of which had now been increased to 767 cc. The Seat 600 D was powered by a 25 bhp engine, which enabled this popular small car to reach a top speed of 110 kph.

more | Revell 1/18 Opel Kadett Coupe (08430) The successful Opel Kadett A, which came out in 1962, was followed three years later by the Kadett B that was just 100 DM more expensive than its predecessor, but its more ample dimensions demonstrated the way road traffic was developing. The population had noticeably reached its pre-war standard of living. The car needed to be big enough to take the hole family and at the same time to meet higher and more individual requirements. In 1966, the great sports potential of the car led to the introduction of the Rally Coupé version, one of the fastest cars in its class. Other model variants based on the Kadett B followed. In September 1967 Opel brought out the Kadett LS, in addition to the Olympia A, as stand-alone variants. So the LS Coupé was shown in the car registration documents, not under the Opel designation, but as the F Coupé. The F Coupé had the same external dimensions as the Rally Kadett and the Olympia and also had the same technical features such as the shock-absorbing steering column and the rear axle coil springs. Like the two other models, the LS Coupé also followed the fashion trend from the USA by having an outward curve in the belt line over the rear wheels. The differences lay in the colour and the 1.7 litre 75 bhp engine that was familiar from the Rekord, which gave it a top speed of 153 kmh and acceleration from 0 to 100 kmh in 14 seconds.

more | Revell 1/18 MGA Roadster (08433)
The first MG was created in 1923 by Cecil Kimber the Manager of the Morris Garage (MG) in Oxford, to be followed by a variety of sports, racing and also luxury cars, which enhanced the worldwide reputation of the MG name. After the war MGs were first produced by the Nuffield Group, until it merged with the Austin Motor Company to form the British Motor Corporation (BMC) in 1952. This brought the MG into competition with the Austin Healey within the same group. Consequently Leonard Lord, former chief executive of Austin and later of BMC. preferred to mass produce the Austin Healey 100 and rejected the new MG concept that Syd Enever had designed for the 1951 races in Le Mans. The variant that was redesigned to become the successor to the MG TD however was blessed with greater success. This car was now equipped with the popular BMC type B engine which was more economical in production. After participating at Le Mans in 1955, this MGA 1500 was exhibited at the Frankfurt IAA motor show in September 1955. The A in the name stood for a new era. The MG design was characterised by sleek elegant lines, in total contrast to its sharp-cornered predecessor which nevertheless had an angular charm. After sales topped 58,000, in August 1959 this model was followed by the MGA 1600, equipped with a 1588 cc, 79.5 bhp, 4-cylinder engine and disc brakes on the front wheels. 31,501 buyers enthused over the MGA which had a top speed of 160 km/h.

more | Revell 1/18 Opel Olympia A Coupe (08446) In 1962, for their centenary year, Opel brought out the Kadett A. This modern mid-size car offered ample space with attractive equipment, temperament and sporty handling characteristics. By 1965, Opel had followed this successful car by the larger Kadett B. The Kadett B provided a platform from which a multiplicity of model variants could be derived. Among these was the Olympia A that appeared for the first time in September 1967. The Olympia, called after the first Opel with integral body, was the most luxurious version of the Kadett B. However, only the elegant and sporty A Coupé had the 90 bhp four-cylinder in-line engine with a capacity of 1897 cc that was already familiar from the Rally Kadett and which also made the Coupé the most interesting version. The A Coupé could sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 14 seconds and its top speed was 162 km/h. The most conspicuous difference from all the other versions of the Kadett B lay in the matt black radiator grille with transverse chome bars and the rectangular headlamp bezels.

The '56 Ford Thunderbird reflects the search for style and elegance in a state-of-the-art two-seater. This car, which very soon became a highly sought-after collector's item, caught the eye on account of its inimitable lines, making it one of the most exciting American car creations of the decade. Film stars and VIPs of all kinds liked to "adorn themselves" with the Thunderbird which was often custom-painted according to their personal taste. Unrivalled then and now and fully in keeping with the times was the pink-painted version that was driven by the world-famous US film star Marilyn Monroe. The powerful V8 engine of the Thunderbird delivered the 202 hp (148 kW) that enabled the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 10 seconds.

more | Revell 1/18 Mercedes Benz 230E (08808) At the end of the sixties Mercedes were developing a successor to the W 114/115 series model that came out at the end of 1967/68 and is better know as the "/8". Particular attention was paid to the strong points of improved safety, easy service, reliability, more comfort and a modern but timeless design. The first prototype was available in 1974. It was soon evident that the new series with the internal designation W 123 was a total success. It was based on the good workmanship, the comfort, the quality bodywork and the perfect attention to detail of a very well designed car and it had no direct competition. All the W 123 models also offered a clearly laid out and functional cockpit, roomy interior and outstanding longevity. In 1980 the carburetor models received the new M 102 four-stroke four-cylinders-in-line engine that had been completely redesigned to replace the versions that were almost 20 years old.
more | Revell 1/18 Mercedes Benz 240D (08809) At the end of the sixties Mercedes were developing a successor to the W 114/115 series model that came out at the end of 1967/68, the "/8". The new series with the internal designation W 123 was first demonstrated in January 1976. Although this well-made new type was only a development of the "/8", the W 123 offered everything that the target group of established professionals of a mature age desired and for many years this middle-range Mercedes occupied third place in the German registration statistics. All W 123 models were characterized by obvious comfort and a suitable seat position irrespective of size of driver. They all had a well laid-out and functional cock a roomy interior and outstanding longevity. From the technical point of view, the new type made only a modest step forward. The virtue of its engine was reliability, rather than agility, which was not sought by these customers. The conventional and trusted diesel engine of the "/8" was therefore retained without major modification.
more | Revell 1/18 Triumph Stag Blue Diecast Model (08815) The story of the Triumph stag begins in the mid nineteen sixties, when Harry Webster, the Triumph technical director, provided the couturier Michelotti with a prototype Triumph 2000 that had been used extensively during the 24 hour race at Le Mans in 1964. The talented Italian had asked for a model in Great Britain in order to redesign it in accordance with his own ideas. When, at the beginning of 1966, Webster visited his friend he was enthused by Michelotti's design, but it was not until two years later that the management of the firm decided to produce the 2+2 seat cabriolet. The Leyland company who owned the Triumph planned to use the V8 engine from their own sister company Rover. However when it became clear that Rover would not be able to supply the required quantity, before he left in 1968, Webster initiated the development of the Triumph V8 engine from a combination of two 4-cylinder engines. When the Triumph Stag went into production in 1970, its appearance had in the meantime been altered in some respects. For safety reasons the frame of the windscreen was now linked to the B pillar by a T-shaped roll bar and the radiator grille had obviously been simplified. This caused the Stag to attract attention at various motor shows. Its 2997 cc V8 engine delivered 145 bhp and gave it a top speed of about 195 km/h. The Stag accelerated from 0 to 100 in 9.5 seconds. Unfortunately this top-of-the-range sports car had some engine problems to overcome and by 1977 production had ceased.
more | Revell 1/18 Ford Taunus 17 M Badewanne Blue (08817) The 17 M with its American inspired bodywork and elongated belt line was launched at the end of 1957. Surprisingly, a successor appeared in October 1960, for the occasion of the works 30th anniversary in Cologne, and it was a totally new version. The second generation (P 3) 17 M was advertised by Ford with the slogan "Linie der Vernunft" (the logical line). It had far more flowing lines: on the down-swept front there was a bumper bar that merged with the side indicators, the windscreen had a convex curve and, quite unlike its predecessor 17 M (P 2), the rear mudguards were rounded off at the back. This striking rounded shape, which was totally different from that of its predecessor and earned it the nickname "Bath Tub", gave it an extremely low drag coefficient of 0.4 cw. Apart from its shape, the P 3 was also much lighter.

more | Revell 1/18 Opel Kapitan 1961 White (08821) The first post-war Kapitän went into production in 1949. In the following years three model variants came out, among which the 1958 model with the works designation "Kapitän P" attracted attention due to its very American styling. Already in 1959 a new Kapitän had come out, under the works designation "Kapitän P-VL", which made up the shortcomings of its predecessors. The body was larger and the front roof supports at the sides of the wide panorama windscreen, the so-called Z-pillars, no longer made it difficult for the passengers to get in and out. The roof over the rear seat was now higher and the rear doors opened wider. In addition, the obviously American lines had become less conspicuous. The solid, robust six-cylinder engine that was used from now on had a capacity of 2605 cc and developed 90 bhp. It was now not only quieter running but also more powerful.

more | Revell 1/18 BMW 503 (08832) BMW presented the elegant 503 in the autumn of 1955 at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt. The design came from the hand of Count Albrecht Goertz, who had previously designed car bodies primarily in the USA and who would also create the spectacularly sporty 507. This attractive vehicle, with its inspiring noble lines catered for the most fastidious taste, despite the technical considerations that restricted the creativity of Count Goertz. In particular the height of the front headlamps was specified in a way that interfered with the planned downswing of the front mudguard. However these limitations in no way reduced the popularity of this beautifully styled car. Awards in many concours d'élégance were regularly heaped on the model 503 with its four-speed gearbox. The 503 was also distinguished by many convenient features such as a brake booster as standard, electro-hydraulic window winders and light and accurate steering. The 503 was precisely aimed to give a sporty but leisurely driving experience.
more | Revell 1/18 Fiat 600D (08834) The Fiat 600 made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in the spring of 1955 and is still considered to be one of the most sensational new small cars of the post-war period. This handsome small car with a rear engine had an integral body, front leaf springs and rear coil springs. Despite its small size it offered four adequately proportioned seats. This car was predestined for the special sporty bodies that were offered by, among others, Pininfarina, Allemano and Abarth, who was even able to build a marque of his own on the basis of the 600. In the late summer of 1960 Fiat (Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino = Italian Motor Works Turin) followed the 600 by the Fiat 600 D. The water-cooled, four-cylinder, rear engine was increased from 633 to 767 cc, taking the capacity to 29 bhp, which enabled this popular small car to reach a top speed of 110 kph.

more | Revell 1/18 Austin Healey Sprite (08837) The Austin Healey marque was born at the London Motor Shown in 1952. Leonard Lord, then Managing Director at Austin, had bought the car shown on the Healey stand from the sports car designer Donald Healey and launched it the next day as the Austin Healey 100. The 100 was taken up with enthusiasm by the public. This beautifully shaped two-seater not only appealed particularly to the US market, which was so important for sports cars, but also fired the enthusiasm of motor racing fans world-wide. In 1958 the successor to the 100 known as the 100-6 was joined by the little Austin-Healey Sprite. This little two-seater with a 948 cc four cylinder engine was known as the Frog-Eye because its front headlamps were simply set into the top of the bonnet in order to meet the requirements of the US market regarding lamp height. The attractive Sprite, which was available as a roadster with soft or hard top, offered 43 bhp and a top speed of 130 kph. While this model was in production until 1961 over 50,000 rolled off the line. In May 1961 it was replaced by the Sprite Mk II, with its headlamps set into the corners of the front mudguards
more | Revell 1/18 Wartburg 313 Sportco (08839) After the great successes of the Wartburg 311, in 1957 the Eisenach Motor Works (AWE) brought out the beautiful 313 sports car. This stylish car offered very well-balanced proportions, the lines of which excited the trade press both at home and abroad. The fine mesh radiator grille that also went onto the later Wartburg models, added the finishing touch to this luxurious sports car, which boasted a top speed of 140 kph. Like its predecessor, the 313 had a 900 cc, three-cylinder, two-stroke engine, but its twin carburettors gave it a capacity of 50 bhp. Other familiar features from the 311 were the torsion resistant box section frame, the suspension and the shock absorbers. The bodywork originated from the Zwickau body works (KWZ), but the final assembly of the 313 was done in Eisenach. The interior of the sports car, which could bear comparison with western products, had comfortable leather seats, a handsome dashboard and equipment that could hardly be bettered by other European manufacturers.

more | Revell 1/18 Seat 600 Beige (08849)
The Seat 600 D was powered by a 25 bhp engine, which enabled this popular small car to reach a top speed of 110 kph.
more | Revell 1/18 Mercedes 180D Polizei/Feuerwehr (08863) The up-to-the-minute 180 range, given the internal works designation W 120, was introduced in September 1953. The extremely positive response to the first new design to come from Mercedes-Benz after the war can be primarily attributed to three factors. To begin with, this completely new vehicle had an integral body and frame - an absolute first in the history of the company. Also, the type 180 appeared with a modern Ponton body distinguished by its rounded lines. Flanges are now only visible on the fully integrated mudguards; the running boards and stand-alone headlamps have disappeared. Only the classic radiator grille remains. This contemporary Ponton shape reduces the aerodynamic drag, which in turn reduces the wind noise.

This well-proportioned vehicle offered a roomy interior and a clearly laid-out dashboard with a prominent broadband speedometer. It was already obvious that a high value was placed on passenger safety, as patented three-point seat belts were available at extra charge from the outset and then as standard from 1959. This robustly built, powerful, and therefore very attractive, Volvo was given the appropriate name of "Amazon" after the female warriors of ancient Greek mythology. However, as the cycle manufacturer Kreidler owned the rights to the name, the range was marketed in many countries as the 120 series and the two-door as the P121. Volvo wished to meet the highest standards of quality and workmanship and the concept took off. The lovely Amazon attracted large numbers of buyers. The car became a best seller and enabled the automotive engineers from Göteborg to gain new export markets, particularly in the USA.
